Boeing P-8A Poseidon (169329 / PD) from the United States Navy at the RIAT 2019, RAF Fairford (United Kingdom)
Currently replacing the P-3 Orion in US Navy service, the P-8A Poseidon is a long-range multi-mission maritime aircraft that in particular performs the anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare roles. It is based on the commercial Boeing 737-800 airframe, and Boeing leads the industry team that has developed the aircraft. The United States Navy (USN) has carried out several deployments with the P-8A, while the P-8I derivative is entering service with the Indian Navy, and the Royal Australian Air Force is another customer. US Navy and Indian Poseidons were engaged in the hunt for the missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370. RAF aircrew involved in Project Seedcorn, an effort to maintain core skills in the maritime arena following retirement of the Nimrod fleet, have been deployed with the US Navy P-8A community.
The Boeing P-8 Poseidon (formerly Multimission Maritime Aircraft) is a military aircraft developed and produced by Boeing Defense, Space & Security, modified from the 737-800ERX. It was developed for the United States Navy (USN). The P-8 is being operated in the anti-submarine warfare (ASW), anti-surface warfare (ASUW), and shipping interdiction roles. It is armed with torpedoes, Harpoon anti-ship missiles and other weapons, and is able to drop and monitor sonobuoys, as well as operate in conjunction with other assets, including the Northrop Grumman MQ-4C Triton maritime surveillance unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). The United States Navy has 98 P-8As delivered through January 2019. It has been reported that the US Navy has a requirement for 138 P-8As, but it is likely to stop orders at 117 aircraft.
