Pilatus PC-21 (G-ETPB) from QinetiQ at the RIAT 2019, RAF Fairford (United Kingdom)
The PC-21 is a tandem seat advanced trainer, powered by a Pratt & Whitney PT6 turboprop, giving a jet like top speed of over 400 mph (644 km/h). Manufacturer Pilatus handed over the first PC-21 (G-ETPA) to QinetiQ in July 2018 and the second (G-ETPB) in October 2018. Both aircraft have been produced with a fully integrated flight test instrumentation capability and their acquisition forms a key part of a transformation and modernisation project currently underway at ETPS.
The Empire Test Pilots' School (ETPS) is a British training school for test pilots and flight test engineers of fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft at MoD Boscombe Down in Wiltshire, England. ETPS is run by the defence contractor QinetiQ under a long-term agreement.
The Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) is the world's largest military air show, held annually over the third weekend in July,
usually at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, England in support of The Royal Air Force Charitable Trust.
The show typically attracts a total of 150.000 to 160.000 spectators over the weekend.
