In place of the "Bezirkshauptmannschaft" (District Commission) building there was, until 1891, the "Salzamt" (Salt Office - salt taxing authority),
on the Tullner main square (Hauptplatz). When Tulln was chosen as the district's center, this building was built in 1891 in a period of only 6 months. It is modelled after the palace of Archduke Ludwig Viktor of Austria at the Schwarzenbergplatz in Vienna.
