The Heilig Geist Spitalkirche (Holy Ghost Hospital Church) in Füssen (Germany), built in 1748-1749 by the local architect Franz Karl Fischer as a replacement for its fire-ravaged Gothic predecessor. Its façade is an outstanding example of the distinctively Bavarian style of exterior mural painting known as Lüftlmalerei, a uniquely Roman Catholic art form which had its roots in the heightened religious zeal bequeathed by the
Counter-Reformation. It shows the Holy Trinity as well as large portraits of the patron saint of firefighters, St. Florian (left)
and the patron saint of travellers, St. Christopher (right).
