The Altwiener Christkindlmarkt (Old Viennese Christmas Market) at the Freyung (public square) in the city centre of Vienna (Austria)
This is one of the smallest Christmas Markets in Vienna and located at the Freyung,
surrounded by the famous "Viennese Palais", the "Austria Fountain" and the "Schottenkirche" (Scottish Church).
Here you will find exquisite craftwork, special treats typical for Christmas time in Vienna and a varied cultural programme.
The fountain at the center of Freyung (seen here on the left) is known as the Austria-Brunnen (Austria Fountain). The fountain was designed by the German sculptor Ludwig Michael Schwanthaler and installed here in 1846. The statues above the basin are allegorical representations of the four main rivers of the Habsburg empire: the Elbe, Vistula, Danube and Po. The statue at the top symbolizes Austria.
