Dalmatian Pelican at Zoo Leipzig, also known as "Leipzig Zoological Garden" (Germany)
The Dalmatian Pelican is a massive member of the pelican family. It breeds from southeastern Europe to India and China in swamps
and shallow lakes. The Dalmatian Pelican is one of the heaviest flying birds but that doesn’t stop them from reaching heights of 3 km (1.9 miles). With a wingspan of over 2,5 metres (8,2 ft) they are the largest pelican species found on the planet. It can be distinguished from its cousin, the White Pelican, by its uniformly light grey plumage and the curly feathers on the top of its head. During the breeding season its bill and the skin pouch become bright red and make the birds even more beautiful and attractive.
